Guntur Mountain - West Java

Guntur Mountain

Mount Guntur is an active stratovolcano in western Java. It is part of a complex of several overlapping stratovolcanoes about 10 km northwest of the city of Garut. The last eruption was in 1847. At an elevation of 2,249 m, Mount Guntur rises about 1,500 m above the plain of Garut.

Story of Journey

  • There were 2 of us departing from Karawang at 05.45  by by car
  • At 6.45 depart by Garut bus from the caheum terminal Rp. 20,000
  • At the Guntur terminal, take an angkot that goes to the Cipanas water bath at 9.00 and arrives at Cipanas at 10.20.
  • Ascent from Cipanas 10.20 arrived at Pos 2 Citiis near the last river at 14.10.
  • Because the weather was raining and there were no other climbers on the mountain, we decided to camp at Citiis.
  • The next day we depart from Pos 2 on foot to the sand excavation area. From there, take a sand truck to the main road for 40 minutes.
  • Then take a bus to Bandung Leuiw Panjang Terminal at a cost of IDR 25,000, arriving in Bandung at 10.30.
